Corralitos Trail Rides

For your convenience, we have included the some text from this website.

The Country

The Corralitos Ranch, located West of Las Cruces, NM spreads over a vast desert. The 1000+ square miles is a working ranch with tranquil terrain, a vista of hills and canyons, amazing sunsets, historical landmarks, and old ruins (of forts, ranch houses, and settlements).

Perfect for riding, photographing, and exploring, the land is home to Indian rock art, old mines, and abandoned homesteads. Rising above the Rio Grande, our riding area ranges 25 miles north into the rugged Sierra de las Uvas. Since Ancient Times, this region has been crossed by hunters and foragers, leaving the rock art behind as their legacy. The Warm Springs Apaches roamed freely. The Spaniards passed close by in the 1600's on their way to Santa Fe.

Some of our rides wind around and through the route used by the Butterfield and Overland Stages. They include:

The way (swing) stations, where mud wagons changed mules;
Abandoned prospects and mines;
The remains of homesteads and fortified settlements designed to fend off raiders;
Ancient migration routes.

Most rides are in two-hour increments, up to an eight-hour, day trip. We cater to individuals and groups of up to 10 people. Riders must be less than 250 pounds and over 8 years of age.

Our destinations border Butterfield's route from Picacho Peak, through the Rough & Ready Hills and Magdalena Gap, below the Ambush Point of Massacre Peak. Our safe and experienced trail horses and mules handle riders at all levels of experience.

Basic riding instructions are available to gain more confidence. For individuals who want to use their own horses, guiding sessions can be arranged.

People who wish to ride with us frequently, can join our Trail Club which gives a reduced rate and opportunities to develop regular riding companion groups. The club is a great way to meet people.
